QUINTE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION
The Quinte Economic Development Commission (QEDC), an incorporated, not-for-profit corporation, is dedicated to the promotion of economic growth in its member municipalities, specifically the City of Quinte West, the City of Belleville, and the Municipality of Brighton. QEDC has been given the mandate to focus on the manufacturing and technology sectors due to the strong value-added and wealth creating benefits that these sectors leverage for the entire the economy. The expansion and new investment in manufacturing and technology sectors creates a positive impact and spin-off across other sectors of the economy including, retail, service sector, construction, transportation etc. QEDC delivers high-impact regional economic development initiatives based on the strategic consensus and common interests of its member municipalities in business retention, expansion and attraction.
Over the past few years, the Quinte Economic Development Commission (QEDC) has been frequently recognized as a top performing economic development group in Canada based on the strategies implemented to encourage growth, diversification and investment. The success of Brighton, Quinte West and Belleville’s collaborative approach with QEDC can be seen in the region’s high number of new investments, expansions and jobs. Initiatives like the establishment of the Manufacturing Resource Centre, the success in investment attraction and job creation in target sectors, and accessing millions of dollars for training and grant funding on behalf of Bay of Quinte Region manufacturers and businesses are examples of the difference the QEDC makes in the community
MANUFACTURING RESOURCE CENTRE
Quinte Economic Development Commission’s Manufacturing Resource Centre (MRC) is an active agent working on behalf of manufacturers in the Bay of Quinte Region. The MRC provides the local manufacturing community a go to resource centre that can assist them with operating their businesses including investigating government funding programs, keeping updated of government legislation or coordinating training with other companies. The MRC has assisted local manufacturers with accessing a total of $32 million for $235 million in business investments for skills enhancement and capital investments.
Trenval Business Development Corporation is a federally supported, not-for-profit Community Futures Development Corporation, administered by a volunteer Board of Directors in partnership with the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario committed to helping develop and diversify the local economy through community strategic planning, business information, counselling and investment in small business. Trenval has provided financing of more than $30 million to small businesses through its investment fund and has impacted more than 6,000 jobs through loans, advisory services and various start up programs.
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT BANK OF CANADA
The Business Development Bank of Canada provides financial solutions and customized services to meet the needs of entrepreneurs at every stage of their business development. The BDC also offers consulting services, subordinated financing, and venture capital. It is located in the Quinte Business Development Centre, Loyalist College.
SMALL BUSINESS CENTRE
The Small Business Centre is provincially supported and services Quinte and surrounding areas to provide valuable workshops, tools, and no-cost consultations to assist entrepreneurs in starting their own businesses and existing businesses. They are located at the Quinte Business Development Centre, Loyalist College.
LOYALIST TRAINING AND KNOWLEDGE CENTRE
The Loyalist Training and Knowledge Centre provides a wide range of customized workplace learning and performance solutions to business, government and industry clients in the greater Quinte Region and across Ontario. They specialize in practical, hands on training that produces concrete results.
PRINCE EDWARD/LENNOX & ADDINGTON COMMUNITY FUTURES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION (PELA CFDC) is a community-based, not-for-profit corporation whose objective is to encourage local entrepreneurship and economic development. PELA CFDC specializes in providing business loans, grants, and training. Their team of experienced professionals also delivers free business counseling services, information and statistical analysis, and connections to their network of entrepreneurs, investors, and community groups. We are also active in rural policy, research, and knowledge dissemination.
The Municipal Economic Development Offices located in Quinte are another resource for people that are looking to start a new business. Belleville and Quinte West, Prince Edward County and Hastings County have Economic Development Offices that can help with site selection and information about business and building permits and local business data.
