What does a small-town pharmacy look like in Ontario? At Nickle’s Pharmacy in Marmora, the answer is both compact and impactful. Unlike the larger, busier stores like Rexall or Shoppers Drug Mart, Nickle’s provides a more personal experience. There are no self-checkout kiosks or flashy signs here. Instead, customers enter a cozy storefront and are warmly greeted by owner Maha Majeet and her friendly, attentive team. It’s a place that feels rooted in the local community.

Originally from Iraq, Maha immigrated to Canada in 1996. After living and working in Mississauga for six years, she decided to leave the city and start her own business in Hastings County. It was a big change, requiring hard work and a leap of faith, but it paid off. Today, Maha runs a thriving pharmacy with a dedicated staff and loyal customer base. She and her family also enjoy discovering the many hidden gems in Hastings County, like the local winery, award-winning spas, provincial parks with scenic hiking trails, and unique dining and shopping destinations—all without the pollution, congestion, or high costs of city life.

In her small-town pharmacy, Maha has created something special: a trusted community hub where friendly service and local connection matter just as much as the medicines on the shelf.

With its small footprint, Maha’s business has a significant impact, offering personalized care with strong community ties.

Quinte West is located on the Bay of Quinte at the mouth of the Trent River, serving as the gateway to the Trent-Severn Waterway which connects Georgian Bay to Lake Ontario. Boating, fishing and other watersport activities are very popular here. This community has a mix of urban and rural living, with an abundance of opportunities to get outdoors and active in the parks and green spaces.
